A big, new $64 million commuter garage long in the works in Springfield is finally set to open in September.
The new transit center at 7039 Old Keene Mill Road, comprising the nearly 1,100-space Springfield Community Business Center Commuter Parking Garage, seven bus bays and “slug” carpooling areas, is something the county has sought for some time. Its opening will probably also prove advantageous for the already-booming Springfield Plaza shopping center across the street, which will not only enjoy an influx of potential new customers, but also get back a sizable portion of its surface parking lot it currently leases to Fairfax County for commuter parking.
