Skyland Town Center was buzzing with activity last Thursday as the development team and community leaders, including Mayor Muriel Bowser, broke ground on the final phase of its transformation. First announced in the fall of 2022, this milestone marks the culmination of 30 years of tireless work to create a center that responds to the needs of the local community. Here’s what you can expect from the latest developments.

Phase Three Groundbreaking

The third and final phase of Skyland Town Center’s transformation promises to deliver exceptional new amenities and housing options, including:

  • 126 for-sale townhomes for those looking to make Skyland their permanent residence.
  • A 75-unit building for seniors that is 100% affordable, ensuring that our elderly community members have access to quality living spaces.
  • 10,000 square feet of retail space to meet diverse shopping needs.
  • A public square and plaza designed to foster community interaction and provide a welcoming space for gatherings.

Once completed, the full 18-acre project will offer more than 450 residential units and over 135,000 square feet of retail space. This joint development effort by Rappaport, WC Smith, Skyland DC, Washington East Foundation, and Marshall Heights Community Development Organization is set to transform Skyland Town Center into a vibrant community hub.

New Restaurant Deals

Skyland Town Center is also expanding its culinary scene with exciting new additions:

  • Savage Breakfast Club: A new brunch concept from Darrell Gaston of Kitchen Savages in Historic Anacostia. Expect incredible breakfast dishes that will make your mornings delightful.
  • Peri Peri Original: Renowned for its great-tasting grilled chicken, Peri Peri Original brings its signature peri peri grilled chicken, marinated in a secret blend of spices and grilled to perfection, to Skyland.

These new restaurants join an impressive lineup of existing food tenants, including Roaming Rooster, Jersey Mike’s, Starbucks, &pizza, Maizal, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Additionally, Skyland Town Center offers convenient shopping options with Lidl, Trek, and CVS Pharmacy already in place.

Rappaport remains dedicated to cultivating quality places that respond to community demand. This commitment is evident in the carefully curated mix of retail and residential offerings designed to enhance the quality of life for local residents.

The groundbreaking of Phase Three at Skyland Town Center marks a significant step forward in the ongoing transformation of this vibrant community hub. With new housing options, expanded retail space, and an exciting array of dining choices, Skyland Town Center is poised to become a premier destination for residents and visitors alike.
